Abstract

The object of this study is an anonymous handwritten document “Materials for a Comparative Dictionary of the Zyuzdin Permyak and the Glazov Votyak and the Besermyan Dialects”. Place of storage and code: Central State Archive of the Kirov Region. F. 170 (Vyatka Scientific Archival Commission). Op. 1. No. 140. The article presents observations on the use sheet of the document, materials on the history of the study of the manuscript and the linguistic material contained in it, as well as its archaeographic description. Judging by the list of use of the manuscript, a fairly large number of researchers got acquainted with it when conducting scientific work, writing monographs, dissertations, and even term papers. The first of the identified references to the manuscript in the scientific literature can be considered a small reference in the textbook “Komi-Permyak language” of 1962, edited by V. I. Lytkin. To date, both Udmurt parts of the handwritten dictionary have been most fully (albeit insufficiently) studied — Besermyan (by T. I. Teplyashina) and Glazov (by L. M. Ivshin). The Permic lexicon of the manuscript has so far received only a brief description by S. A. Sazhina (in the article by L. M. Ivshin). Other works cite (not without inaccuracies) only individual words from the manuscript (see articles by O. P. Aksyonova, S. A. Maksimov, E. V. Popova, V. S. Churakov and others). The manuscript itself has not yet been published and has not been fully investigated. In this article, for the first time, an archaeographic description of the manuscript was made, namely, the format, binding, numbering, handwriting, stamps on paper, notebooks from which the manuscript was composed, the contents of the document, other (extraneous) records, edits. According to indirect data, the final version of the manuscript “Materials for a Comparative Dictionary...” authored by the registrar of the zemstvo household census and local historian P. M. Sorokin (1860–07.09.1895) was written by his brother A. M. Sorokin. Thanks to the stamp on the paper, it is possible to establish the “white date” of the creation of the manuscript — 1887. According to other, updated data, such a stamp dates back to 1893–1894.
