Abstract

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Kama-Vyatka Archaeological Expedition (KVAE) of the Udmurt State University. The authors consider various aspects of the activity of this significant institute for the development of regional archeology. The history of the inclusion of students in archaeological research in Russia is analyzed, the role of university education, programs that provide it, in the development of domestic archeology, especially since the 1970s - the time of the widespread opening of universities in the regions of the country is emphasized. Attention is drawn to the significant socializing impact of the archaeological expedition, both on the formation of professional historians in general, and new generations of archaeologists. KVAE has done a lot to expand the source materials of regional archeology. The authors identify key stages in its development, focusing on the study of monuments that have become the key to building concepts of the ancient and medieval history of the Kama-Vyatka interfluve. Attention is brought to the expansion of the subject area of archaeological research of KVAE: in addition to rescue archeology, in recent years, the study of historical settlements, monuments of new time has been actualized. The article draws attention to the historical and anthropological aspect of the expedition. It would not have been possible without the efforts of its founder, Doctor of Historical Sciences Rimma Dmitrievna Goldina, and her numerous students, whose studies have been conducted, based on materials obtained by KVAE, certain categories of archaeological material and types of monuments have been studied, ethnogenetic and cultural-historical concepts of the development of the Kama region in different eras have been substantiated, models of demographic development of past societies and their social structure have been established, the history of the archaeological study of the region has been studied.
