SELF-ASSESSMENT OF FOSTERING SOFT SKILLS IN CONDITIONS OF MODERNISATION OF RUSSIAN HIGHER EDUCATION

Abstract

Implementation of the Federal State Standards of the third generation requires new methods of fostering and evaluating soft skills in the framework of the subject approach. In this article, the approach to the evaluation of fostering soft skills based on the results of the courses completed and unified for the whole university. The article aims to evaluate the quality of teaching courses providing implementation of soft skills, and the level of their mastering in case of the Udmurt State University. Students’ self-evaluation of the quality of teaching courses formed the core of soft skills is presented in the article as one of the tool for accessing quality of education. The survey was the main empirical method of the research. 270 students participated in this survey. The analysis has demonstrated significant connection between the levels of mastering all the soft skills, and between this variable and the students’ performance. It requires necessity of harmonization of soft skills with each other, as well as of the development of interdisciplinary connections. Students placed their physical training on the highest level; on the lowest level of competence, they evaluate foreign language proficiency, and life safety skills. The research found the connection between student academic performance, their activity in different spheres, self-assessment of fostering soft skills, and evaluation of teaching quality.
