SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION IN THE PERIOD OF “KHRUSHCHEV THAW”

Abstract

The article analyzes the main characteristics of the social transformations of the period of “Khrushchev thaw”, the implementation of which was an attempt at a comprehensive solution of accumulated and ultimately aggravated social problems of the Soviet state in the 1950s and 1960s. Special attention is paid to reasons that led to a correction in the trends of socio-economic development which were traditional for the Soviet state. The use of diverse documentary material has made it possible not only to demonstrate the main directions of state policy in the socio-economic sphere, but also to analyze the perception of complex transformations of the Soviet state and society during the “Khrushchev thaw”. The implementation of social reforms in the context of large-scale reconstruction of the country was to become a guarantee of stability, an essential prerequisite and precondition for its sustained economic development and growth of the material welfare of the people.
