Abstract

The names of loom’s details existing nowadays in the Udmurt dialects are examined. The earliest by origin unit вырт has Finno-Perm roots and means “headdles”. With the development of weaving, a large number of new terms created by derivational means of the Udmurt language (by means of affixation, composition) appear. Along with original lexemes, words borrowed from Russian and Turkic languages are distinguished. The existence of words of foreign origin fosters the variants of denominations of certain objects.
