Abstract

In this work, the “A.S. Bubonov’s Commission” sent by the Central Committee of the CPSU(b) to China in 1926 is considered as the main object of research. The purpose of this study is to clarify the main tasks and activities of this commission, especially the commission’s attitude of the incident by Chiang Kai-shek on March 20 in Guangdong. An attempt was also made to determine the role of A.S. Bubnov’s decision on the development of the political fate of Chiang Kai-shek, the Kuomintang and the Chinese revolutionary movement, their consequence of the interaction of the USSR with the Kuomintang. To achieve this goal, a source of archival and historical documents was used, in particular, the archive of the RAGSPI, diaries of Soviet advisers and memoirs of Chinese leaders. The results of the study show that the visit of the commission to China became a turning point for cooperation between the USSR and the Kuomintang, since then the USSR has constantly lost the initiative in bilateral relations.
