Abstract

The article considers the ways and methods of presentation of Russian poets’ poems published in Udmurt educational publications of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries. It is established that the texts selected as illustrative material were the result of scrupulous philological work of the textbooks’ authors. It is considered what transformations the original text was subjected to, what fragment it is presented, under what heading, what was the reason for the choice. It is revealed that the practice of creating educational books was guided by previously published works. Relying on their gut and intuition, the authors and compilers of textbooks during the selection focused on literary texts of an edifying and didactic tone, the plot of which is connected with the Christian basis of the worldview. The conducted comparative analysis of Udmurt textbooks revealed a number of regularities: the same poems circulated in textbooks of different authors and under different headings, the authorship was not indicated, the texts were shortened; the examples reflect the formation of the Udmurt versification and the selection of the material conveys the cultural and political trends of the time.
