Abstract

With the involvement of previously unknown archival materials - correspondence with the editor-in-chief of the journal "Historical Bulletin" S.N. Shubinsky - the author of the article reveals the painstaking work of E.N. Berkut in preparation for publication of the memoirs of her father-in-law, a well-known doctor and public figure N.K. Berkut. His "Notes", which contain rare information about the Berkut family, training at Moscow University, active professional activities, meetings with prominent figures in science, church, and public figures, are of historiographical interest. The biographical information about his son V.N. Berkut - a major figure in education of the late XIX - early XX centuries - is considerably complemented. There is information about his wife, the paternal granddaughter of the outstanding philologist, archeographer, archaeologist K.F. Kalaidovich and by the mother of the famous literary critic N.S. Silivanovsky. She proved herself to be an extraordinary woman, actively engaged in self-education, was interested in her lineage, sometimes noticed inaccuracies in publications and tried to correct them.
