Abstract

The article is devoted to the history of the Sarapul Museum and the peculiarities of its functioning in 1917-1941. Organized back in 1909 by the decision of the Sarapulsky Zemstvo Council as the Museum of the Sarapulsky Zemstvo, it became the first publicly accessible museum of local lore on the territory of the Middle Kama region. One of the reasons that influenced the multiple changes in the status, name and, in general, the activities of the museum in the period under review was the frequent change of administrative subordination of the city of Sarapul, which became part of Udmurtia only in 1937. Having gone from the city museum at the beginning of the XX century to the Republican Scientific Museum of the Kama Region of the UASSR in 1939, by the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, becoming a repository for several museums, he was able to create conditions for fulfilling a special mission to preserve museum values. The source base of the research was made up of unpublished documents of the state regional and municipal archives, the scientific archive of the Sarapul Museum-Reserve, materials of the periodical press. In the historiography of Udmurtia, this topic is among the insufficiently developed. The article considers only a part of the problems associated with the functioning of the museum in the designated period.
