Abstract

The hero of the article is the historian, writer and public figure of the Udmurt Republic Kuzma Ivanovich Kulikov (1937-2023). The author analyzes Kulikov's scientific and literary works, documents of his personal fund in the Scientific Archive of the Udmurt Institute of History, Language and Literature of the Udmurt Federal Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He became known in the Udmurt Republic and the Finno-Ugric world as the director of this institute (1978-2007). The author highlights the stages of Kulikov's biography, taking into account the influence of such important events in the country's history as the Great Patriotic War, the Khrushchev Thaw, Perestroika and reforms of the 1990s. The article contains a conclusion about the regularity of the historian's appeal to the study of the Great Patriotic and Civil Wars, Udmurt autonomy, repressions of the 1930s, modern ethnical and political processes in Udmurtia.
