Abstract

The article describes the typological similarity of the "landscapes" of I.S. Turgenev and K.A. Korovin. The stories "Faust", "First Love" and the novels "Rudin", "The Noble Nest" and "Fathers and Sons" are the subject of research attention. I.S. Turgenev’s descriptions of nature and K.A. Korovin’s landscape sketches were a reflection of the cultural processes of their time - the desire to break through the boundaries of the visible, to comprehend what is beyond it. According to the author of the article, artistic optics of Korovin and Turgenev are in many ways similar - the writer and the artist were united by a special sense of the landscape. The desire to capture the caught moment, the desire to convey the subtlest colour changes, the elusive movements of the light-air environment, going beyond the intrinsic value of the landscape - all these not only brought together the aesthetic worldview of Korovin and Turgenev, but also made them the forerunners of impressionism in Russian culture.
