Abstract

The article considers the category of time based on the material of narratives about the Great Patriotic War. The main definitions of time, important for its interpretation in the framework of oral narratives, are given. The cases of different perception of time in critical situations are presented, there are references to the folklore perception of time. Life in the minds of storytellers who survived the Great Patriotic War, as a rule, is divided into three stages: before the war, during the war and after the war. Sometimes life is clearly divided into two parts: before the war and after it began. Thus, the war becomes an important event, a kind of border for memories of the past of a participant or witness of military operations. In the narrative, the narrator restores the chronological sequence of events, often without retrospection, sometimes uses the technique of retardation: there is a detailed description of the flying projectile, the battlefield. Usually in war, time slows down or speeds up in critical minutes, seconds, while waiting. Conclusions are made on the material of stories about the war, including literary edited, as well as directly recorded during interviews with veterans and transcribed from a dictaphone.
