Abstract

Modern climate changes present us the task of constant monitoring and updating of data on the occurrence of temperature extreme events that may pose danger to several areas of the economy. To identify the extreme temperature events, the 90 and 95 percentiles of daily maximum temperature during the warm season months of 1961-2020 in Izhevsk were calculated. Then the number of days with extreme temperature conditions was determined for every decade of the research period. The number, overall and average length, and intensity of the registered heat waves in 1961-2020 were also evaluated, and their dynamics analyzed. The results suggest the increase in number for both days with extreme temperature and heat waves. Other heat wave characteristics demonstrate more complex patterns of change, but nevertheless point on climate becoming more extreme during the last decades. None of the linear trends are statistically significant.
