Abstract

The article analyzes and publishes 13 letters from Petrozavodsk researcher of the Vepsian language and culture N. I. Bogdanov to the famous Russian archaeographer, creator of the Ancient Repository in the Pushkin House V. I. Malyshev. The letters are kept in the V. I. Malyshev's fund in the Manuscript Department of the Pushkin House, dated 1947-1951. N. I. Bogdanov and V. I. Malyshev were brought together by a common alma mater - studying in the 1930s at the Philological Faculty of Leningrad University, participating in the battles of the Great Patriotic War, but most importantly - an interest in the culture of the North, which each of them studied from the standpoint of their science, linguistics and archaeography. The letters add details to the scientific biography of both scientists, contain interesting material for the study of the history of philological science in the 1940s - 1950s, they mention the names of famous scientists - D. V. Bubrikh, V. Ya. Propp, K. V. Chistov, A. P. Razumova and others. The letters contain information about the scientific and administrative work of N. I. Bogdanov, about the formation of the manuscript collection of the Karelian Institute of Culture, about some scientific events of those years - the anniversaries of the complete edition of "Kalevala" and the first edition of "The Word about Igor's Campaign". The published letters are accompanied by comments.
