Abstract

Family is the primary agent of socialization, acting as an intermediator between cultural values and the result of intergenerational transmission. The problem of the "contribution" of traditional cultural and modern social values to the relationships between parents and children in ethnic families of a multicultural society is defined. The study involved 40 complete mono-ethnic families: 20 Azerbaijani families from rural areas (Perm region), 20 Russian families from urban environment (Perm city) (120 people in total), among them there were children (40 people in total) aged 11-12 years (M=11.6), parents (40 mothers and 40 fathers) aged 29-47 years (M=38.7), permanently residing in the Perm region of the Russian Federation. According to the results of mathematical statistics methods, vertical intergenerational interaction from parents to children was established. Intergenerational differences in values were found in families with different locations of residence: in diasporic Azerbaijani families from a rural region, cultural values were defined as significant life goals; in Russian families living in an urbanized environment, the values of the information society and global information space were defined. The obtained data on the axiological foundations of the relationships between adolescents and parents in modern ethnic families can be used by practical psychologists in their work on family migration issues related to acculturation and social adaptation of family members to the socio-cultural environment, for their integration into a new community.
