Abstract

The article considers the plot of the novel “Podrostok” as a symbolic unfolding of the primary mytho-symbolic meaning of the name “Rothschild”. The name “Rothschild” as a symbol unfolds as a series of events related to people’s attempts to assert themselves with money and their immoral acts, which inevitably end these attempts. “Podrostok” freed himself from the demon of his “Rothschild idea”, became a different person. The historiosophical aspects of this name are also shown. The model of the “Rothschild” man, having well-known precedents in world literature (Gobseck, etc.), nevertheless, in Dostoevsky acquired a metaphysical, “Shakespearean” scale and, accordingly, set the scale of its overcoming in the form of a spiritual transformation of a person in the light of the Christian ideal.
